Pretty familiar with this concept and have a couple of recommendations that have been helpful.
1. Have some questions in mind in terms to help determine what you want out of the book, this helps motivate and provide some intention behind the absorption and falcon dives. If you don’t have any initially, come up with some after doing a first or second pass.
2. Do this process for several books on the same topic close together. This helps provide a bunch of different angles that fleshes out the topic better.
3. If you want to do something physical, once you get closer to the falcon diving step you can use a highlighter or pen to highlight or underline the words you see frequently that seem most important and related to topic jargon or concepts. Usually keywords like this provide the real meat in pre-chunked form.
Fantastic input, Devin! The second tip you shared is particularly powerful. It’s almost as if it takes the entire process to a fractal level, where an individual book is but a chapter in a larger cluster. The more books you read, the more you get the feeling of “I already know this…”
